About

I’m Jordyn, an author and editor who strives to create memorable stories that nestle in readers’ hearts. I would be honored to work with you!

About Jordyn

My life has been defined by a passion for storytelling.

Stories allow us to share in others’ experiences and view the world through their eyes. A specific arrangement of words on a page can create living people, paint vivid pictures, and express life-changing truths.

This enthusiasm has motivated me to write my own stories and help other authors shape theirs. Each story, like each author, is unique. With every word we write, we create a story that has never before existed in the history of the world.

How I Got Started Writing

I’ve been writing since I could henpeck stories on my family’s old computer, and I haven’t stopped since. Growing up, I experimented with graphic novels, fanfiction, and short stories.

Nowadays, I write contemporary and science fiction novels that feature family relationships, close friendships, witty humor, and coming-of-age themes. If you’re familiar with the Save the Cat! story genres, my favorite story types are Golden Fleece (road trip), Rites of Passage (life change), and Fool Triumphant (underdog). To learn more about my stories, visit this page.

I seek to write stories that are enjoyable for a wide range of readers and free of objectionable content. I’ve completed several full-length novel manuscripts of my own, including The Time Travel Team: The Great Historic Mystery. In the near future, I plan to rewrite and republish this novel as a special anniversary edition. For further updates, sign up for my newsletter!

As a reader, I enjoy exploring a variety of authors and genres, including contemporary stories by McCall Hoyle, Charles Martin, Karen Kingsbury, and Kathy Buchanan; historical fiction by Tessa Afshar and Stephanie Morrill; and speculative fiction by Daniel Schwabauer, Katherine Briggs, Lindsay A. Franklin, and Nadine Brandes.

How I Got Started Editing

As I explored creative writing, I discovered that I had a knack for noticing typos, grammatical errors, and ways to improve stories. (In addition, I discovered a penchant for the Oxford comma.) When I became part of the Clear Water Press online writers’ community, I edited numerous novels that became winners, finalists, and semifinalists in the community’s annual novel contest.

I graduated summa cum laude from Liberty University with a BS in Creative Writing: English and a Minor in Professional Writing. After graduation, I participated in a one-on-one mentorship with a professional editor.

As an author myself, I understand the monumental challenge of editing a manuscript. That’s why my purpose is to partner with you as you shape your story into a masterpiece.

I support writers throughout the process of brainstorming, strengthening story structure, clarifying sentences, and correcting typos. To learn more about the editing services available to you, please visit this page.

Every other Wednesday, I’ll post a writing article on my blog. For example, I developed the Character House, a model designed to help writers create compelling characters. You can also find articles about scene structurewriting goals, showing vs. telling, and more.
